Summary
It has been a pattern throughout Regulus' life, choosing to ignore his brother's advice and always ending up paying the fucking consequences.
It started with a tree, and a branch, and a broken arm. Then it was a friend, betrayal, and a heartbreak. And after that, his parents, a warning, and a lesson. It never stops, because Regulus never learns, and Sirius is always right.
That was until James Potter. He looks as much of a mistake as all the ones that came before him, but this might actually be the time Regulus breaks the fucking cycle.

Regulus is nothing if not a liar. And a really damn good one at that. Or he tries to be, at least. You see, making mistake after mistake isn't as easy if you don't have a certain amount of delusion.
How do you think he manages to stay on that stupid branch until it breaks each time?
Of course, it doesn't really work with Sirius, because his brother has always been able to see right through him.
And as luck would have it, James Potter also appears to be somewhat of an exception.

Summary
Regulus has it all under control. Really, he does. And anyone that says otherwise is just plain wrong.
He knows what he and James are doing. It's fun and easy and, most importantly, casual. He can put an end to it whenever he wishes to, because the power is all his. The ball is in his court, and all that bullshit.
So what if the longer he spends with James the more of his rules that end up broken?
There's nothing to worry about. Nothing at all.
