Ratio was under the impression that Diamond’s hand-picked chosen were steadfast and serious, like their names. He’s never met someone so full of chaos, so devoid of logic that it’s almost frightening. The most dangerous men were always the ones who are hardest to predict.

...win.”Aventurine’s voice, whispered so closely into his ear, sends shivers down Ratio’s spine. No amount of reason could explain why it sends his heart racing.
With his intellect and rationality, Ratio thinks he can handle any situation. He doesn’t expect to get teamed up with a fast-talking, reckless gambler with a blatant disregard for his own life. He's even more surprised to find that they make a good team.

Summary
He betrayed Aventurine because he believed; believed that he had a clever plan that hinged on him doing as predicted. The gambler still thinks Ratio doesn’t trust him but that couldn’t be further than the truth, if this is not his ultimate form of trust, Ratio doesn’t know what is. A portion of his conscience stings at the fact that Aventurine genuinely thinks that Ratio dislikes him so much that he would betray him for knowledge, but the gambler had a way of walking around with blinders on when it comes to himself, and his own self-worth.
There is no such thing as death in dreams, only dormancy. If Aventurine chooses to succumb to the Nihility, to give in to the eternal dream, then his physical body in the real world will never awaken.
There are no dice for him to roll to decide his fate this time. The choice is entirely in his hands.
Aventurine escapes from the Nihility to find that his gamble has turned out even better than he expected. He can’t shake the feeling that things are a little too good to be true though.
