Summary
When Li-Chen enters their living room and sees Robin on the windowseat, she bursts into tears.
Robin is immediately by her side, hissing, “Who hurt you? I’ll kill them.”
“No.” Li-Chen swipes at her eyes furiously. “You cannot assassinate the administration and the PTA vice president and nine-tenths of the state legislature.”

Satsuki says, "Most of my friends think my idea of fun is skewed as it is—and, in fairness, I get it: most people don’t get off on playing music slightly too hard for them one week a year, and swearing every year to practice like a boss so that the music’s less hard.”
“You are getting better,” Sheila allows, “but you’d be brilliant if you ever decided to focus more than you fuck around.”
“Alas,” Satsuki says, without rancor, “so much to do, so little time. I do actually like practicing, but I always get tied up with too many other things as soon as I get home.”
“Speaking of which,” Alana leans forward, hesitating for a moment but then barrelling ahead. “From what I hear, you’re usually the one doing the tying up.”
Satsuki’s eyes narrow. “Just who did you hear that from?”

“Stop right there.” Helena, the ensemble’s director, stood up from the harpsichord. “If anyone’s being a diva right now, it’s Jeremy. I don’t mind low-key trying for visual cohesion, but he damn well knows I’m against forcing people into new togs just for this group.”
“Oh, thank God.” The heartfelt exclamation came from Maeve, a new violinist. “I was going to check with you on that. He really, really wants me in green, and I don’t wear that color if I can help it. Not even on St. Patrick’s Day.”
A contretemps over concert attire leads to Hongyu and Maeve's first night together.

Summary
Miao-Fei was a firm believer in preparation over superstition where most of her life was concerned: scientifically understanding temperature and tension was how she kept timpani and keyboards in tune even in muggy auditoriums, and her ability to deploy myriad minute adjustments on the fly set her apart from the inexperienced and unanalytical. But she also liked saying hello to the Wonder Woman figurines on display in the back room of Ambition.
