Summary
Mia Fey never expected her second trial to come easy. She insisted on taking the case because she knew it would be difficult. And yet how is it something still feels so off? It’s easy enough to answer the court’s first few questions: the defense is ready; the cause of death was poisoning; the motive, the “bad blood” between the parties involved, was, of course, Dahlia Hawthorne, the victim’s girlfriend and the defendant’s ex. They're the right answers, Mia's sure of it. As surely as she knows her client didn't do it, surely as she's going to do everything in her power to prove Mr. Swallow's innocence.
...So why does it all feel so wrong?

Summary
Most people do not meet their soulmate at the tender age of 8. Then again, they aren't "most people."
Most People wouldn't be separated for nearly 15 years after meeting, and Most People don't ever lose their color vision unless they lose their soulmate, and Most People learn how to talk worries over with their loved ones (or at least a therapist? a random bar patron? literally anyone) instead of bottling everything up and fleeing the country, but.
They figure it out. And then they figure it out again, and again, and they keep figuring it out. Together. (...Eventually.)

“I’m telling you,” Mia whisper-shouts, foregoing a greeting as she slams her books down on the table and drops into a seat, “the professors are up to something.”
Lana, for what it’s worth, hardly bats an eye. She finishes annotating whatever she’s working on in her spellbook and lays her quill down to safely spare her papers any excess ink before she so much as glances up at Mia.
Her flat-eyed but half-hearted glare might be more effective if she didn’t look so cute doing it.

There’s a woman lying in his spot, on his wall. Her hair’s brown and short and sweat-messy, slipping out of the brightly-colored clips near her temples and clinging around her jaw and to the arm flung over her face to shield her from the sun. She’s wearing work boots and jeans with some truly impressive stains around the knees and, inexplicably, a dirt-streaked Blue Badger T-shirt, the likes of which Dick hasn’t seen in years.
He dislikes her instantly.
Or: (more than) 5 times Dick and Maggey sit on a stone wall together, and 1 time they find someone else there instead.

Summary
The only reason Apollo even notices the little bakery-cafe is because the only other person he finds on the street at this time besides him is sitting in front of it. The only reason he even notices them at all is because they’re wearing, of all things, a pink top hat and matching cape, which is really not particularly common LA 6 AM streetwear in Apollo’s experience—although it’s not completely out of the bounds of normality, either, so he decides to reserve his immediate judgment.
Which is either the best or worst decision of his entire life, the jury’s still out.
