For all they know, he and Mellori could be halfway across Empyrea by now.

She doesn’t open her mouth. She doesn’t even try to speak. She waits for him to leave.
“Thank you, Wizard,” he sighs. “And I’m sorry. But I know now what I have to do.”
And then he’s gone. The plume of purple smoke leaves her raw and unsurprised.
