Summary
“Freedom is a physical property, not a feeling. You cannot feel free if you are not free. Either you are free, or you are not.”
“I beg to differ, Iudex. This happens to be a subject I know quite a lot about.” Wriothesley held the dragon’s gaze, refusing to drop his eyes. “Freedom can, in point of fact, be both a physical property and a feeling.”
Neuvillette blinked and inclined his head. “Even if a human being is caged, they can feel free?”
Wriothesley nodded. “Some can, yes.”
Neuvillette frowned slightly. “How can that be?”
Wriothesley hesitated. “I could spend many hours trying to explain my experience to you, Iudex. But I doubt I could find the right words.”
“Could you show me?” the dragon asked, softly.Or, What if Neuvillette had accepted Wriothesley's invitation to tea after the Domenico/Kiara case?

Summary
“Cerberus, what are you doing?” Neuvillette kept his voice calm and even, as if he was having a normal conversation.
Slowly, Cerberus let go of the figure’s throat and got to his feet, leaving his victim gasping and moaning. The smile on his face was fey, his eyes alight with ice cold fire. “Iudex, what a surprise. I did not expect a visit from you today.”
“I ask you again, Cerberus. What are you doing?”
Cerberus threw a glance down at the prone man next to his boot. “I am administering just punishment to Mister Dougier here, for serious transgressions committed against his fellow residents of the Fortress Méropide.” He met Neuvillette’s gaze, a dangerous glint in his eyes. “As is my right as Duke and master of this place.”Set after Wriothesley's story quest, picking up on the Dougier storyline. A direct sequel to my stories The Nature of Freedom and Who stands guard while Justice sleeps?
