Summary
He asks the kid to tell him his story- and the kid hits him with a story that- if true- would make Linebeck believe he was looking at the legendary hero reborn.
The cherry on top was the climax: a final battle on top a sunken castle, against the very evil that caused that castle to sink in the first place.
When the kid finishes, Linebeck can’t help himself but to give a slow clap at his performance. “A+ for creativity- honestly, you’re quite an impressive storyteller. But how about you really tell me why I should keep you around.”
The kid looks owlishly up at the captain, eyes wide as if he can’t believe the captain didn’t believe his tall-tale. “What do you mean?”
“Kid.” Linebeck sighs and rubs his eyes before continuing. “Look, that’s a great story you’ve told, but it’s obvious it’s just a story.”
Or
Captain Linebeck is used to being a lone sailor, but now he has to ferry around this random kid- who is hopelessly clueless when it comes to how to survive on the seas. The captain takes it upon himself to try to teach the kid a thing or two before they inevitably split ways when their adventure is over.
