Summary
Mycroft and Sherlock have been enrolled in Eccort School for the Gifted and Talented--their first experience of other children and the world outside their family. Mycroft is twelve, going on thirteen. Sherlock's just turned six. The headmistress and their two teachers are having their first midyear assessment of their new charges.
This is me trying to make sense of the implications of some of the comments Sherlock and Mycroft make about their background. They sound like they really experience other children for the first time at a fairly late age even in Sherlock's case--which means Mycroft would be quite a bit old in his first extended encounters. This at least makes sense to me, for the backstory and for the personality of the two boys. Hope it's interesting.

Summary
This is really a continuation of "Midyear Assessment." Once I'd postulated Mycroft having mentors in MI6, I found I needed them to have their own version of a midyear assessment of their young protege. And once I had to have that, well, the rest fell into place.
My headcanon already tries to blend Mycroft's backstory with the most recent version of *Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy." In this case I just let George Smiley and Peter Guillam become Mycroft's mentors, trainers, and the hands that silently placed him at George Smiley's desk in the end. So it's a crossover, I guess. But to me it's "not a crossover," because somehow to me it just flows so well: as though those two fictions were always part of the same AU from our Real World.
And thanks to people who pointed me at online copies of "Hearse." I have seen it now. (LOL--I have seen the Elephant.) Much appreciated.
