In a medieval world inspired by the classic Rapunzel fairytale, Carl Grimes has spent his entire life locked away in a solitary tower, isolated from the outside world. Taken as a child after the defeat of his real father, King Rick Grimes, by the ruthless warlord Negan, Carl is led to believe that the only reason for his captivity is his safety. The man throws his elbow over the seat, turning around to look at him. Stares at him with brown eyes... hazel, if he wants to be specific.
He says something that Rick can't hear. Watches as his mouth forms each syllable, baring his teeth in a way that's all too familiar. Rick almost expects him to smile.
But he doesn't smile. Instead, he looks over his shoulder, out the side window and into the forest lining the road. There's cloth covering his throat. Red as a machete, dark as the blood that stains his hands.
How could he forget? How could he fucking forget?
This wasn't just a man.

Summary

Summary
The apocalypse began 6 years ago. When it began she had family, friends, a community to take care of her. Now she finds herself at age 19, everything and everyone she loved, either gone or lost. In her early years she would have done anything for a community to call her own. Now she has learned just how dangerous caring for others can really be.
Imagine if Negan hadn't been captured by the people of Alexandria. What if instead he spent those 6 years out in the wilderness on his own. What if he wasn't alone.
This story is set 2 years after Season 9 Episode 6. Negan was never captured by Alexandria and instead fled from Virginia.
(I try with my entire being to never put any sort of physical descriptions of the OC in there as to not ruin anyones fun. but the name is kind of just put there so i dont have to refer to the OC as "her" for the entire fic and also cuz there aint no way in hell I'm using y/n.)
