After a few days at the Doodle Ledge Café, it became a routine, hardly broken. Alice world arrive, she would pray, then she would sit behind the counter and wait for customers.
That all changed when he walked in.

Her house was in view, just a few steps away, when there was a grab at her ankle from the thick tall grass where the Doodles lived. Alice shrieked as she was pulled downwards, landing ungracefully on her stomach and meeting a young girl's gleeful eyes.

Alice's knees hurt. She had been kneeling on the cold church floor for quite a while now, so long that the sole ray of light beaming down from the surface had begun to fade. Nocturnal insects had begun to sing, announcing the sun's departure and the moon's arrival.
And still Alice was on her knees, averting her eyes, waiting for her savior to utter even a single word.
