Boone cannot remember Carla's face.
Whenever he tries, all he can see is the gore after his shot through the scope of his rifle. He tells himself this is fine, that it's better this way. He's not like the other soldiers that were in his company, the ones that would cry on and on about being unable to forget. The ones that remember every face of every life they've taken.
Boone doesn't remember most of them, he'd never been smart enough for that kind of remembering anyways. Maybe that's why when he tries to picture Carla, late at night lying by a campfire or tucked in his bed at the Lucky 38, all he sees is The Courier’s face instead, her crooked smile and discerning eyes piercing through him.
