Lucian said as he entered his own study, carrying a gift, one that Charles gave him to be precise. His voice was smooth as ever, with a hint of muted amusement.
"I'm not,"
Charles replied, though his gaze dropped to the small, neatly wrapped gift in Lucian's hand—a little dark red book, worn at the edges, one he'd spent weeks looking for. He had first thought of the idea by seeing Lucian in the huge library in the mansion; it was not a surprise that the man likes to read.

Not the sheets beneath his hands, not the dull ache in his limbs—just an overwhelming emptiness. He wants to feel something, anything, he needs to feel something.
The door creaked open. Soft footsteps followed, and a woman with dark, straight hair stepped inside.
“Are you alright?” she asked gently.

The bar was… not a place Charles Talbot would typically find himself—that was more H. Grey's scene. Yet here he was, seated at the counter, a glass of whiskey in hand. Even that was out of character for him; whiskey wasn’t his drink of choice. He much preferred black coffee, especially on those long nights spent poring over case files.
The bar was dimly lit, with amber-toned lamps casting a soft glow across the room. The wooden counter, polished from years of use, stretched along one wall, its surface gleaming beneath the low light. Shelves lined with bottles of every kind of liquor stood behind the bar, some dusty and others well-worn from frequent hands reaching for them.
