16-year-old Anne Boonchuy has spent her whole life living in the Suburbs, the sprawling developments that make up the outskirts of the country of Nova, surrounding the True City at the nation’s heart. By her side as she’s grown up in this concrete world have been her best friends, Sasha and Marcy. At least, until three years ago, when they parted ways, chosen for their roles in society, and Anne expected to never see her friends again. But, sporting a powerful government position, Marcy begins plotting to take down the corrupt President Andrias from within the ranks, and to fulfill this plan, she’ll need her friends.
