"Don't believe it for a second, Darlin'," was Bones's immediate retort, and Jim didn't start at the pet name, thank you very much.

You had just turned on your television and Moose got comfortable on your lap on the sofa when your apartment window slid open.
Your smile over at Raphael morphed into a confused frown when he barely looked at you (or Moose, who grumbled under his breath when Raph didn't pause to pat his head) before going over to your punching bag and giving it a series of jabs.
The bag wobbled dangerously close to your wall with each punch, and you only piped up when it eventually did kiss the wall.
"Uh, you good, Raph?"
"Peachy."

Wouldn't have gone through hell as a kid and come out simultaneously feeling too young and too old. But, in a more perfect world than this one, where Tarsus still somehow happened but everything was ok after that, he'd keep seeing this specific therapist until the day he died.
She works with kids.
He's twenty three.
Jim is pretty sure he'd rather gnaw his own foot off than talk to anyone else about his brain, about his trauma, about all the ways he’s fucked up.
So. He just sort of. Doesn't.

“Yeah, Bones.” Jim replies. His lips quirk into a half-smile but he keeps his eyes closed. “You needed a nickname.”
“You couldn’t have thought of a normal one?” Leonard grumbles as he sets to work on Jim’s hand.
“It suits you."
Or
Leonard falls apart and he runs to Starfleet. In three years, he learns how to pick himself back up.
