Summary
For the first time, Kim Dokja feels wanted. Not as a reader, not as a weapon, not as something disposable, not a useless F-rank support, but as someone who can stay.
The realization terrifies him.
To believe this warmth could belong to him. To think of Yoo Joonghyuk as someone he might lose. He already buried the only person who ever loved him without reservation. He cannot survive another loss like that. Kim Dokja does not bring happiness– he brings endings.
His mother told him to live happier than she ever was. This was more than what he could ever let himself wish for.
He can live with just this.
He can die with just this.
He shouldn’t ask for more.
His mother taught him that love is sacrifice, and even a monster like him knows how to pay his dues.

“Nonsense. My surprises are a delight.” That earned an eye roll from Kim Dokja. Han Sooyoung’s “surprises” always consisted of something that was probably illegal or borderline insanity.
“Does it include illegal activities?” Kim Dokja asked. But he didn’t need an answer; silence from Han Sooyoung was a good enough one. “Sooyoung, please tell me we’re not doing something illegal.” He begged—if he were to get arrested, he’d probably get deported or something, even though he already had citizenship in the country.

Kim Dokja, an unfortunate white-collar worker, had the displeasure of being dragged to a speakeasy. Normal, right? Wrong, his penchant for bad luck says otherwise. He had started to get the distinct feeling of being watched.
Or, Han Sooyoung lovingly, and literally, left a drunk Kim Dokja in the arms of Yoo Joonghyuk, a young bootlegger and mafia don. And Kim Dokja might or might not have incited Yoo Joonghyuk's interest. Because he might have fallen into the don's bed.
