Lestrade did not see the signs in Mycroft, but he recognised Sherlock’s stillness.
“Sherlock, what is it?” Lestrade approached, drawn in by Sherlock’s manner.
“I’m going to need your assistance in about ten seconds.” Sherlock responded flatly, giving no indication of urgency despite the timeframe.
“My assistance? ten -?” Lestrade frowned, trying to catch up. “Wait, what for?”

Mycroft spared a cursory glance at the screen, took a thin, shaky breath, and turned the phone face down. His fingertips rested on his temples, pushing against the headache as the threat of being seen sank in.

“You haven’t been sleeping.” Sherlock observed idly as he held out the flame to his brother.
“Not habitually, no.” Mycroft responded, leaning into the flame, breathing the ember alive. He took a small drag, and then another, deep and reverent.
They both exhaled slowly and the smoke settled between them.
