Hunger had defined Coriolanus for most of his life. Hunger for food, hunger for money, hunger for safety and security. It would not have been so bad, he sometimes thought, if this was all he knew. But the memories of having had enough, growing stronger by the day instead of fainter, added a sharpness and depth to the eternal wanting.
