I swallowed hard, forcing my hands not to shake, forcing myself not to give him the satisfaction of seeing how deeply he still affected me.
“You don’t get to decide what I do” I said, even as the bond pulled tight, even as my body betrayed me by aching for him anyway.
His mouth curved—not a smile. Something darker.
“We’ll see.”
