Summary
This was too big to confess, even in the dark privacy and anonymity of the Confessional. Pierre knew as soon as he was absolved – clean, pure, forgiven – the fiery thoughts would drag him under again. His absolution would wear off before he even left the Confessional. And he couldn't truthfully repent, because the thoughts, as well as being sinful and scary, were hot and delicious. He wanted to surrender to them – he craved. Sometimes he thought he would die of wanting.
