Day Three: Rescue Mission
Akechi Goro hates the feeling of deja vu.
Ever since meeting that fascinating dark-haired boy with a soft spot for the Phantom Thieves, events have felt so familiar, as if remembered from a far back dream. Repeated phrases, repeated steps, repeated invitations out for just the two of them wherein Kurusu’s eyes glint with something that makes Goro’s chest feel hollow. An empty space, things forgotten.
But it doesn’t matter. It can’t matter, because Goro has his goals, he has his orders. And once the false Medjed has been suitably swept aside and the Thieves praised high and far, they will be perfectly set up to take the fall for his own crimes.
And then, one morning, right at the start of September, Kurusu Akira doesn’t wake up.
And when Goro does, he remembers fragments of a dream: a blue butterfly, the dark hallways of Mementos, and an urgency bordering on manic. And he knows, without any doubt in his mind, that Kurusu will not wake up without intervention.
His life sucks.
