Summary
Today, everything in Glinda’s life was supposed to change for the better. Her older sister’s coronation was supposed to go off without a hitch. Instead, it’s snowing in the middle of summer and it’s up to Glinda to find her sister and convince her to break the spell, by traveling into the mysterious and possibly dangerous Northern Forest.
Elphaba is a starving academic trying to support her younger sister and fundraise a research trip into the Northern Forest so she can collect the stories the residents tell about the Hidden Folk, a group of faeries known for abducting human children and leaving changelings in their places. Most people don’t believe they're real, but Elphaba knows better. She’s seen them. The last thing she needs is a princess showing up on her front step in the middle of the night, dressed in a party dress, insisting she needs Elphaba to help her find her sister because she can navigate the forest better than anyone else. But when Glinda promises to fund the research trip once her sister puts everything right, Elphaba realizes she can’t refuse.
Their journey will challenge everything they thought they knew about their histories and their futures.
