The crowd was loud, the roaring drowning out any other sounds around. They were all cheering for a boy with a helmet.
A boy with a helmet that was basking in it all. His arms stretched out wide, jumping up and down to rile the crowd up more.
He quickly put his visor up, revealing sharp blue eyes but nothing else. Those eyes were scanning the crowd before him, slightly squinted into a smile.
He stomped his foot, the crowd stomped theirs. He stomped his other foot, the crowd stomped theirs. He stomped in a rhythm, the crowd stomping in the same. A loud drumming to a beat that was like no others.
A beat that was his.
A beat that was for the boy called Cherry Bomb.

(Yeah, he didn’t believe that for a second. Other fosters had been the same way. Schlatt was a well-known politician, who was running for mayor when he took Tommy in. Dream had been a member of the school board, part of the PTA, and had three other foster kids under his belt. Now look where he was, riding in Miss Clara’s car on the way to his next placement, Tommy huffs at her and turns back to the window. He only got out of the hospital a couple hours ago, and now he was stuck back in the car. Which he thought was dumb, he would be out in another year now, give or take a couple months, so why couldn’t he just get emancipated and go live his life?
Tommy didn’t want anything to do with Mr. Xisuma Void (and what kind of name even was that anyways) but Mr. Void was a pillar of the community, and had quadruple Dream’s previous foster kids, and pretty much all of them still lived in and around the neighborhood.)
Foster parent Xisuma Void has taken on an emergency placement, Tommy Innit. He wants to help this kid work through his trauma. Tommy wants to get emancipated and get out of there. Mumbo just wants to get his homework done (though he worries about Tommy too).
