    As an IT intern at Beach City Hospital, Peridot spends her time restarting computers and organizing files. Two months into her internship, her coworker Pearl introduces her to their new patient - Lapis Lazuli. She was kidnapped six months before and was found by police in a room full of mirrors. With no immediate family and no emergency contacts, Pearl asked Peridot to be Lapis' caretaker. After she agrees, Pearl tells her that Lapis is pregnant and heavily traumatized.
    This fanfic is heavily inspired by "Things We Lost and Things We Gain" by teamchaosprez !! (steven universe fanfic in 2025???? crazy) It was written back in 2015 when Lapidot was just a CONCEPT, so I wanted to update it a bit according to lore and my own headcanons.
    Updated every Friday !!
    ** I will be AVOIDING graphic depictions of Lapis' trauma at all costs!! She will have flashbacks, but nothing explicit will be mentioned.**

    Sometimes memories are stronger than life itself. No matter how hard you try to erase them from your mind, they rise to the surface and pull you into the depths. Lapis knew this. Fragments of the past haunted her, trapping her in a vice and tearing at her, stripping away her skin until only bones remained. Her father’s death, life in the orphanage, and what happened to her there never let her go. The burden is heavy, dragging her down to the very bottom, but there is no one around to whom she could tell everything that gnaws at her from within.

    Then she meets Peridot, a young engineer in robotics that lives above her. An odd acquaintance becomes something more intimate and slowly she gets to truly know her. Maybe, she's the one she can rely on.
