Summary
Jon returned from the kitchen and handed Martin a mug of tea, once again sending him that soft yet heavy look.
"Listen," he almost whispered; a tiny part of Martin's heart calmed, even if only a little. Something about that tone always reminded him of how Jon spoke to him when they were walking out of the Lonely, hand in hand. "Listen, is… Are you all right?" Jon asked, watching him closely. "You seem far away today, and- I don't know if I should worry."
Martin looked at him a little sadly, a little apologetically, before drowning his eyes in his mug.
"No, I… I hope not," he answered.

Summary
There were very few words, for a while.
Barely whispers, rushed yet reassuring, exchanged over a bleeding body. Barely relieved looks as they stood in front of their now-free past selves. Barely quick touches; kisses pressed to each other's lips in the tunnels, tight embraces, deep sighs against the other's chest. Stubborn holding of hands on their way to the train station.
Now, as they sat slumped into their seats in the thankfully empty compartment, as no reason to stay vigilant and to hurry remained, the tight cocoon of silence was finally allowed to unravel. Martin sighed, turning away from the window, from the more and more rapidly passing view - first to their intertwined fingers on the armrest between them, then to Jon.
"We actually got away with it," he said.

Summary
"I'm so glad I've got you," Jon says. "Without you…"
Without Martin, Jon couldn't be sure he wouldn't have given in to despair and given up on himself - on multiple occasions. Without Martin, he may never have left the cabin.
"...Everything would have been worse," he finishes simply.
Martin's face draws into something soft, and sympathetic, and sad.
"Without you, too," he replies.
Jon knows he means it. And maybe… Probably, some time ago, he would have challenged it, would have called it objectively not true. But it has been getting easier - just a little, but still easier - to say he was used. To admit that if Elias hadn't chosen him, there would simply be someone else in his place right now.
He has Martin to thank for a significant part of that, he thinks as he presses a kiss to his lips; as he lingers there, gently but certainly; as Martin chases the kiss with his own.
"It feels good to be able to do that when nothing else can see," Jon whispers, a few quiet moments after they part. And then, even though it's not an easy fear to share, "...We may not get many more chances."
