    In Westeros: war.

    To the east, the Targaryen queen has landed on the shores of Dragonstone, prepared to take back the throne stolen from her family.     Alys Snow is almost all alone in this world. Her father is dead, her oldest half-brother too. At Winterfell, the traitor Theon Greyjoy burned her young half-brothers and she was forced to flee. Perhaps Sansa and Arya are still alive in King's Landing. Alys hopes, and goes south.

    She eventually finds herself in the Riverlands, peering into the dark waters at Gods Eye. She drinks from the water and prays to her gods, hoping against hope, that she will be able to find a way to her remaining family.

    Hope does not find her. Daemon Targaryen, risen from the dead, does.

    Gods Eye can be read on its own, without reading A Sweet Thing.

    Daemon Targaryen had not expected to wake beneath the towering face of the weirwood tree on the Isle of Gods. Especially not since the last thing he remembered was dying. Which, apperently, was over a hundred years ago. With his family long since burned to ash and what remained of his descendends lost in Essos, he had planned to take to the sky on Caraxes and punish the Seven Kingdoms for what they did to the blood of Old Valyria. Westeros could do with a reminder of a Dragon's rage and Daemon had nothing left to loose. All that remained was his wrath.

    But then he found the girl. Her face a monument to Valyrian beauty, with eyes like the frozen North. A face that he knows has haunted his dreams.
