“Okay, daddy,” Wally says, handing it over, and everything freezes. Jason freezes in the middle of shooting another passive-aggressive barb. Dick freezes, gaze moving from the spoon he’d been contemplating throwing at Jason to Wally and Roy instead. Garth freezes where he’s making his tuna pancakes at the stove, one of the rare times he’s able to drag himself away from his Atlantean duties and fill in the Titans roster instead.
“What?” Wally asks, looking around the room. “He is.”
“No,” Roy says, pointing the syrup at him.

"Hit a nerve there, didn't I?" Damian turned to input gleefully.

In the grand scheme of things, seeing Roy cheerfully walk out the door wasn’t that painful. It didn’t hurt as much as dying. It didn’t hurt as much as coming back. Still, Jason didn’t actually like pain, and he knew if he gently demurred the next time, Roy would hear him. It was the smart thing to do, and that was why he already knew he would never, ever do it.
Roy shifted in his sleep, pressing closer to Jason, his strong arm slung heavy over Jason’s waist, his chest a furnace against Jason’s back. This was a bad idea. It had always been a bad idea, and it would be an even worse one in the morning.
But for now, Jason was warm.

But there were still lines Roy wouldn’t cross. Even if Jason was old enough, even if he was no longer gunning for anyone who truly didn’t deserve it. Bad enough that he’d dated Dick’s ex for so long. He had been Dick’s friend first, and you didn’t go after your friend’s younger siblings. You just didn’t. Besides, Jason wasn’t interested, so the whole point was moot.
Until that smile, and Jason could be an asshole, but he didn’t hand out his cruelty where it wasn’t earned. He wouldn’t tease just because he knew how Roy felt. If he was pushing Roy’s buttons, it was because he wanted Roy to push back.

Summary
When Jason's dead best friend shows up at his door, injured and with a surprise daughter in tow, Jason knows he should just be grateful for the miracle. Even if things between Roy and Lian aren't exactly rosy, and even if Lian's managed to catch the attention of a dangerous crime lord, this is a happy ending for the Harpers, or close enough to one. This is the way things should be.
Jason knows there's no place for someone like him in Roy's life now that he's found Lian again - but he can't quite let go of what they once almost were. He can't quite let go of Roy. Not until he has to.
