Summary
Hannibal Lecter has, on average, eight conversations per day that he does not pay attention to. These include the ones he has with his patients, and sometimes colleagues. Rare is the neurotype that requires his full scrutiny. Most days he drapes careless tidbits in front of them- platitudes, basic observations. Enough to satisfy the necessities of social obligations, and, on occasion, fulfill the advice required by a fifty-six year old woman made frantic by the flight of her rich children from the nest.
He has two he gives actual attention to, though it’s rare for him to be fully present even during those conversations. These are Alana Bloom, his current paramour, and Jack Crawford, who hopefully will never attain that title. They speak of many things, varied and similar as blades of grass- the nature of Will Graham. The nature of murderers. Different and yet the same.
