"Ooooh no, ok, this is- this is a bit much, isn't it, an endless hallway and a disappearing door at the end, ha ha, what an odd dream, time to wake! up! now!" he punctuated each exclaimation with a sharp slap to the face, gaining nothing but a sore jaw and the realization that this was likely another Mercenary and Khonshu event that he'd accidentally slipped into. Zagreus stops in front of him, head tilted up to look at him. There’s a cut on his face, and without thinking Thanatos reaches out, runs his thumb over it to soothe it shut so at the least he does not bleed.
Zagreus is still looking at him, quiet.
“Zagreus?”
“You came,” Zagreus finally says. He smiles; it makes all the flames that curl around his laurels spark. There is such a soft and tender pleasure in his words. “After all this time.”

It’s a fleeting, lovely thing—there and gone so quickly Zagreus feels bereft. “Are you sure?” he whispers, a dangerous edge to his voice. “Do you know what you’re asking for when you plead for me to sate your hunger?”
