Wei Wuxian has only ever seen Hanguang-Jun from a distance, and often in the light of the full moon which reflected off his scales, blurring his figure to any who dared look at it straight on. Many villagers claimed it was then bad luck to do such a thing, but Wei Wuxian had found such logic ridiculous and always opted to stare when the mysterious god drifted high above their tiny village. Even now, in the bright afternoon sun, with Hanguang-Jun descending on him, Wei Wuxian can’t find it in himself to look away.

The thread of fate, mother had explained to him when he was barely five years old and quite enamoured by the thread that swayed from her finger in a dizzyingly hypnotic manner, almost see through, yet palpable enough to realise that it was real, that it connected two people who were meant to be. That it never broke. That it was always, always the same deep red. That it was also, something only a select few people were able to see.
