What if Madara had noticed his slow descent into madness and realized something was wrong? What would have happened if he went to get a second opinion from an expert? What if Madara had more support when he was struggling?
Or: Madara still left Konoha and tried to destroy it, but it was never what he wanted. Tobirama just wanted to save the love of his life but failed to do so alive. He wasn't allowing the same thing to happen even if he was reanimated. Madara wouldn't leave him again.
