Summary
There’s a meaning in their meeting, a revelation to be had between him and this fantastical beast, but it slips through his comprehension, like trying to hold on to a handful of rushing water. Deliberately obscured, whatever significance the world is trying to show him, and is he even going to remember this when, when he steps out of this liminal space? When he goes home? It hadn’t occurred to him that for all his good intentions, Joshua could choose to draw this memory like a loose string from his mind, and toss it away, another part of his past stricken from the record.
(Or, perhaps it doesn’t matter- the Composer can’t erase his own memories, after all. If Neku forgets, Joshua will still remember, and maybe that’s been the point of this all along.)

He thinks Soren might accept the compliment for once, only to hear him speak quietly into his book. "Only time and effort, is all. Everyone has some measure of magical ability, Ike, it's just a matter of cultivation"
"You can’t mean that." It comes out too incredulous for his liking, so he follows up, in jest, with “even me?”
Soren’s mouth scrunches together in that way that means he’s about to snort, but the sound never materializes. Instead, he fixes his sights on the cross of Ike’s arms across his chest, and lets his gaze pan slowly upwards to look him in the eyes.. "... Yes. Even you."
A flutter starts beneath his breast, their closeness doing little to dull the full brunt of Soren’s unwavering, pensive stare. “Soren?”
Slowly, his expression becomes sly, appraising, a slight tilt to his head. "In fact, I can show you."

Summary
Ike clamors up the stairs, careful to keep the tray steady, and opens the door to the roost, where he knows the prince has taken residence. There are whispers, rumors all around, that he is mad, delirious with grief after the death of his parents.
(But the prince is not mad. Ike may not understand, but he can see the clarity in the prince’s eyes when he speaks- only to him, as he refuses to entertain the words of anyone else- and knows that whatever his own concerns, it is a matter of the rest being unable to perceive rather than the prince seeing, hearing what is not there.)
---Soren is king of Daein, and Ike is his knight.

“我想，我是在等待。”他慢慢地回答她，声音空洞没有起伏，彷佛这也是他第一次回答自己，“我在等待我生命的终点。等待时光流逝，直到我被自己的后代打倒并继承的那一天到来，结束我最后的使命。”
他的眼睛延伸向她的身后，望向那彼岸的常世之国。那曾经被他不屑一顾的盘踞在山巅之上的衰老妖怪，带着嘲讽的讥笑从遥远的国度投来回视的目光——“年轻的犬妖啊，总有一天你会和我一样，拖着垂老之躯盼望回归彼岸之国。”
“I have just been waiting,” he answered her slowly. His voice hollow and flat, as if he was finally admitting it to himself. "I have been waiting for the end of my life. I am waiting for years to pass, until the time comes when I will be defeated and succeeded by my descendant. And I will fulfill my mission."
His gaze extended past her, and stared into the world that goes beyond the other shore. The same old Youkai hunkering on top of the mountain that he used to look down on, now mocking back at him from that distant realm: "Young Inuyoukai, one day you will just be like me, waiting with a decrepit body and eager to return to the Underworld."

Julius doesn’t know about the urn, but he doesn’t pay much attention to Arvis’s attempts to educate him on Velthomer’s traditions anymore anyways. What he doesn’t know won’t hurt him, and the mage is sure that if Deirdre is truly watching over him in the afterlife, then she appreciates getting out of the house once in a while.
He takes her to Chalphy without considering the irony of it all.
