Bruce might not know about Jason yet in the timeline, but Batman was the only one who could protect him against Black Mask.

His eyes burned with unshed tears of resentment and disgust for this place. And no longer holding back, Damian silently sobbed, releasing all the accumulated stress of these three days. His bottom throbbed violently and tingled from his father's belt. He wished madly that Dick would be here right now and hug him, assuring him with warm words of comfort that he was loved and important.
