Summary
She’s not sure what it is about JJ’s tone or attitude that makes her one hundred percent certain she knows what’s really being asked of her, but whatever it is, it does the job.
JJ is talking about them, all the way back at the beginning. Back when Emily thought there might be something there; back before JJ met Will. Back before she had to start telling herself that it had always been one-sided – that she was nothing but a goddamn fool, who’d always have to love her best friend in silence and watch from the sidelines.Or: JJ freaks out while the team is joking around, and nobody understands why. Emily quickly goes after her, but the conversation that ends up happening is not one she was quite prepared for...

Summary
Was it all in her head? Or did she make Emily wonder too, just like what was happening for her the other way around?
Because the idea that Emily might have wanted some other woman but not her, never her… It hurts so much right now it feels downright unbearable.Or: a playful conversation among the team leads JJ to the realization that she's the only one who's never even kissed a girl before. (*) And she doesn't exactly handle it well.

Summary
Whatever her feelings for JJ were, they couldn’t be allowed to get out. Ever. Not since Will came into the picture, and whatever unspoken Thing had colored their early relationship slowly petered out. Emily had waited too long, been too much of a chicken, and she’d forever pay the price.
Of course, Will was never supposed to die this young. And JJ’s eyes on her were never supposed to start burning again, the way they did when they were twenty years younger and a hell of a lot more naive about the complexities of life.

Or: Emily telling the story of her break-up with Mendoza has an after-effect she wasn't expecting. And two years later, when she ends up at JJ's place after a late night at the office, JJ decides the twenty-year-long status quo of unacknowledged feelings that's always existed between them has lasted long enough...

She should have seen it coming, really. She should have known that someone would break her relationship with Astra eventually. Isn’t this the way things go in life? You make friends, but those friends fall to the side once you start dating someone? It’s the commonly accepted hierarchy of relationships, anyway.
But then again… where does that leave her?After Astra starts dating Behrad, Spooner feels her slipping away more and more in favor of this new romantic relationship, and it... hurts. But that's what was always going to happen, right? That's just how romance works, anyway. So she keeps quiet, hides the pain, and focuses on exploring her newfound identity with Zari's help instead.
It works, kind of. At least, until she's forced to start to talk things through with Astra.---
Or: a self-indulgent exploration of Spooner's aroace identity and what she really feels for Astra, because I'm oriented aroace and the show just handed me a character that I relate to on a silver platter.

It's been a few days since Bess smashed the crystals, and she's fine. She's fine. She's moved on.
But then she has to feed her heartbreaks to the light monster, and having to think about Odette hurts. Because in the end, she didn't even get to say goodbye. And she never will.
Or, at least, so she thinks.
Because that day, when she falls asleep, Odette is there to see her one last time.
