He shook his head. The runaway idea was stupid—there’s no way they’d be able to pull it off and even if they did, there were just so many things that could go wrong. He didn’t know if he could pull off a convincing scheme like this, he knew he’d leave some kind of sign (but what if he was careful)? Plus he had no idea if Ilya would actually be ok with dropping everyone and running—also what about Svetlana, would she be ok with doing all of that? He already felt like he asked Ilya to give up too much despite his reassurances and this would just be another thing he’d be asking Ilya to leave.
There was just no way that would work—right?

Summary:
“I’ll wait for you.”“Wait? Wait for what? What was Shane saying? This week-long funeral of a stillborn relationship, their love, was the most Ilya could wish for in this life. This wait.
“I’ll wait for you. I looked it up. I’m sorry, I know it’s a bit morbid,” Shane said.
“What?”
“Your father’s health, what you said about the symptoms and the medication. I don’t think he has many years left, Ilya. I’m sorry.”
“You’ll wait?”
“Yes, until you come back, in two or three years. I’ll wait for you.”

In 2014, just one week after winning his first Stanley Cup, Ilya is forced to leave everything behind when his brother abandons Moscow, leaving him to return to Russia and care for their dying father. Before he goes, he and Shane make a desperate promise: to wait for each other. Across continents, their relationship survives in fragments, phone calls, and summer reunions. If their secret is ever exposed, the consequences could destroy everything around them. And as the years pass, the distance isn’t the only thing growing.

Ilya’s 2020 Instagram Posts
Longtime lurker, first time poster. Throwaway for reasons that will be obvious, but the mods can verify I am who I claim to be. Which is someone who knows Ilya and Shane very personally.
I wanted to talk about some of Ilya’s instagram posts because I was looking back at them the other day and they’re literally all about Shane.

Summary
David Hollander doesn't walk in on them at the cottage. Instead Ilya gets a phone call that his brother has died and his niece is an orphan in need of his care. Ilya and Shane have to make a new plan to make space in their lives for a toddler.
Shane’s shoulders are shaking like he wants to be pacing or screaming or both but he’s holding himself in place on willpower alone, “You can’t risk being deported, not with a kid, not for any reason. And maybe it’ll be good for you, I mean you’ll need help, right? And she’ll help you? And if they ever suspected, I mean a wife, that’s good, right? Everyone thinks you’re straight anyways –”
“Stop.” Ilya doesn’t mean to sound so loud, so angry, but he’s been through too much in the last twenty minutes to modulate, especially in English, “We talked about this. We had a plan. I would not marry Svetlana.” Because I want to marry you, says the little secret voice inside of him that’s only recently gotten permission to be loud in his head.
Shane huffs, adorably annoyed, “Ilya, marry Svetlana. For your niece. You might not be in love with her, but you do love her, don’t you?”
“I –” Ilya swallows thickly, “I do, but –”Bookmarked by Erikthenormal

Summary
“We do not say anything about the Hollander situation,” LeClaire tells them even though it sounds like he’s already resigned to what he knows is going to happen.
After all, Roz gets extremely mad whenever it’s brought up. Not that Cliff can blame him, he’s pretty sure that Roz liked Hollander before this (wouldn’t chirp him half as much if he didn’t). Finding out that he’s such a bastard must sting.
Not to mention that Roz does not mess around with people that disrespect girls. Or women. Or kids. Or dogs. Or the elderly (excluding Scott Hunter). Or really anyone, if it’s for petty stupid reasons.
“Of course,” Cliff agrees for both of them since Roz is still too busy texting someone.
It’s apparently not good enough for LeClaire because he asks, “Roz?”
“Just one second,” he answers without raising his eyes from his phone or stopping his typing. “Need to get my Jane to agree with something. She’s very stubborn.”
Or. My take on the 'their text leak and now everybody thinks that Shane is an abusive bastard' premise. Featuring Ilya giving a presser, Marly realizing in real time who 'Jane' is and the internet reacting to the craziness.
