After the fateful fight with Rido at Cross Academy and Yuki's departure with Kaname, Zero disappears overseas without the Kurans knowing anything about his whereabouts.
Two years later and the Kurans are set to be engaged, however an attempt on Yuki's life at the engagement leaves Kaname rattled and desperately seeking answers. Lo and behold, in his attempt to chase the perpetrators, Kaname runs into Zero at a graveyard, who appears to finally be back home. Finding himself irrationally furious with the boy and his disappearance, he attempts to take his frustration out on him. However, Zero's response and demeanor end up catching Kaname off guard and the subsequent encounters he then has with Zero, end up confusing Kaname even more to the point he becomes obsessed with finding answers. What had happened to Zero during his lost years?
