Summary
On Christmas Eve a young girl wakes to find a Nutcracker sitting on her bedside table, a ribbon tied around his shoulders. She picks him up with a sparkle in her eyes as this Nutcracker is very handsome. She notes a bit of damage by his elbow, but otherwise the wooden toy is clearly old, but loved. She brings her new toy to the Christmas Eve play in the community center that evening, only for her younger and bigger brother to snatch if from her.
After breaking the squabble up, the kids grandfather sits Leviathan and her three siblings down to tell the story of that very Nutcracker in her arms.
