A year after being aboard the Enterprise, Beverly makes an abrupt decision to leave the ship and take a temporary posting at Starfleet Medical Headquarters. Speculation as to why she has left is tossed around, but in a series of letters to Jean-Luc, she explains the truth… and the secret that sent her running.

Summary
Inspired by Picard season 3, this is the first time Jean-Luc and Beverly got together and then broke up again.
Takes place after the TNG series finale All Good Things, before the Generations movie. Coincides, I think, with the end of S3 of DS9 - Bajor has a new treaty with Cardassia, allowing Cardassians back on the station.
The Enterprise is visiting DS9 to help with sensor upgrades when a new contagion is discovered. Beverly Crusher is enlisted to help find a cure, while she and Jean-Luc navigate a newfound romantic relationship.

This is a sequel to my fic "Why" where Jack and Jean-Luc hash out what Picard said in Ten-Forward about not needing a family and Jack explains why he did not want to have a relationship with him.
In this fic, Jack gives his father some food for thought which leads to another confrontation with Beverly.
