Summary
Ilya follows because someone says Shane needs him.
That is all it takes.
By the time Shane realises Ilya is gone, there is a gap in the camera footage, a dark van leaving the loading bay, and a message from Ilya’s phone that does not sound like Ilya at all.
Shane knows Ilya better than anyone. He knows his tells, his temper, his stupid jokes, the exact shape of his fear. None of that lets Shane save him.
This is not that kind of story.

Summary
Wanting to get an escape from the ‘power couple’ taking the media by storm over the last couple of months Ilya decides to escape to a place where no one cares about Shane Hollander. Russia. Sure it wasn’t a place Ilya loved to be these days but he needed the break for a few days.
Shane Hollander finally took the first step towards his own betterment— okay, Rose slowly walked him into that step but it counted— and now he felt more ready to try and go for what he really wanted.
Only life had other plans for them both.

“Fuck.” Shane repeated aloud.
“I-I don’t feel so good,” Ilya confessed grimly, and for a moment, Shane felt like he was falling.
Helplessly, he watched as Ilya reached down to scratch various patches of his skin — softly at first, at the base of his neck, then more aggressively along the backs of his hands.

Summary
“What -“ Ilya started, his voice shaky and wet with blood. The movement made Shane’s hand slip, another gush of blood spurting across his fingertips.
“Shut up,” Shane bit in return, fraught. “Shut the fuck up.”
Or: At the Montreal - Boston game in April 2017, it is Ilya who is injured instead of Shane.

Summary
Everyone knew that love could heal. With just a kiss to the cheek or forehead, it could heal papercuts and little scrapes. And there were rules, of course. It could only be healed by a kiss, the press of lips to skin of the injured person. The more kisses shared between two people, the more potent the magic became. The love had to be mutual and genuine. The intensity of love altered what one was capable of healing. Stronger love could heal wounds that were deeper, concussions and diseases and gashes large enough to need stitches. Nothing much bigger, though.
Unless you were soulmates.
Soulmates were supposed to create such a bond that they could heal anything that afflicted their soulmate. The love between soulmates still had to be there, but the magic was more potent. The stronger the bond between soulmates, the more they could heal. There were even a handful of cases where a person had brought their soulmate back from the dead. A love so pure, so strong, so genuine, that it reached beyond death, that it pushed air into lungs and restarted a heart. All healed with a true love’s kiss.
These were just stories, though. And, besides, soulmates didn’t exist anymore.
