Summary
"Prospective applicants must be willing to endure unforgiving and hazardous living conditions" Sandrock’s job posting proclaimed in bold letters. The clear warning to applicants was precisely what drew Kat’s attention to it in the first place; even hazardous living conditions were an improvement to the near-impossible living conditions she’d endured in the Peripheries. Starting over with nothing doesn't concern her, but the prospect of being near people after so many years avoiding them does. Unfortunately, all the Old-World books she discovered painted a vivid picture of the life she was missing out on, and now she’s determined to face her fears and experience the things she read about.
Harsh as the Peripheries were, Sandrock seems to have a vendetta against her. While she struggles to survive the challenges it throws at her on top of her daily struggle to integrate with society and conform to its rules and expectations, she starts to develop romantic feelings for the town’s mysterious and taciturn doctor only to realize that human relationships are extremely complicated—especially when outside influences like a crushing workload, other peoples’ feelings, and politics get in the way.

Summary
Rowan sits bolt upright, blood rushing to her brain, and nearly loses consciousness again.
“Varric?”
She looks around. She’s not in Minrathous. She’s not in the Lighthouse. She’s in a small wooden hut, the Frostback chill seeping in through the thick pine walls and competing for dominance with the heat of the fire crackling in the fireplace.
She’s in Haven. 9:41 Dragon. She traveled through space and time, arriving not at Arlathan before Solas’s ritual, but at the Ferelden Conclave, just to be blown up, hurtled back into the Fade she’d so recently escaped from and then out again, now marked by god magic.
Fuck.
When Rook discovers that time travel exists - and her friend Dorian helped pioneer it - she begs him for a favor: send her back to the ritual so she might save her mentor and friend, Varric, from Fen'Harel's knife. Dorian sends her back, all right - eleven years back, to the moment everything went to hell and the Herald of Andraste was born.
