Summary
“What is your deal?” Majima barks.
Kiryu looks at him in the eye for the first time. Kiryu has deep under-eye bags, his skin is waxy, and the dullness of his coloring indicates his sleeplessness. He’s aged significantly from stress. He seems older, paler, but somehow stronger. The softness of his cheeks and his frame has dissipated entirely, replaced with a more rigid, more muscular outline. Whatever remaining baby fat clinging to him from his twenties and thirties is gone. His cheekbones jut out of his stoic face. His body seems as impenetrable as the steel of his glare.
“I don’t know who you are,” Kiryu says. The words themselves wound Kiryu to say as much as it evidently does Majima to hear, “Leave me alone.”

Summary
Haruka’s hand squeezes at his wrist as she stands behind him. Kiryu knows she’s seen the pallor of Majima’s skin, the shallow cuts at his shoulder.
“Hiya, kiddo,” Majima says, his words dry.
There’s a brief pause. Then:
“I don’t know what you did,” Haruka says, and Kiryu tilts his head back to just barely catch the pointed look in her eyes, “but you deserve it.”-
It's spring 2006, and Kiryu finds an injured Majima.

Summary
“I never knew you were such a romantic, nii-san.” Something twinges in Kiryu's chest; maybe he’s pulled a muscle. “Next time I kick your ass, maybe I’ll bring flowers.”
“Nah, don’t bother.” Majima huffs out smoke and stares up at the moldy ceiling. He sounds bored of the joke already. “I got allergies anyway.”
It’s funny to think of Majima, who bulled through being stabbed and shot and drowned by sheer force of personality, being brought low by hay fever. Kiryu’s chest twinges again. He should microwave a bag of rice to put on that when he gets home.

Summary
In these rare moments of quiet, when Kiryu was left on his own with nothing ahead and nothing behind, his mind always strayed to the same thought like an animal licking a wound.
What was he doing?
(Kiryu's accumulated a bit too much heat from the cops and is forced to skip town for a while. Luckily his caring superior Majima is around to help him pass the time.)
