    Her words end in air, ripping through her chest. Wet, crackling. Gripping the sink, her head falls downwards, heavy, as the sobs rack her body. But even with the noise she makes, Sabé doesn’t miss the little cry that escapes Padmé’s mouth, the small gasp of sympathy followed by smaller kisses, scattered up Sabé’s shoulder. Up her neck, into her hair.

    ‘My girl,’ Padmé whispers, lips brushing the shell of her ear. ‘My beautiful, beautiful girl.’
