Even in the commotion, he tried to cover Will’s frail body from the threat, his arms finding their place enveloped around him tight as he chanted his friend’s name, who was still violently spasming. He didn’t even want to look, far too scared to face the same monsters El had ended with a year ago.
Will is possessed by the Mind Flayer and admitted in the lab, Mike helps him escape. Even if it means following the Hive Mind that controls his best friend from the Upside Down. He just loves Will, in whatever form he comes.

“What?”
“How else could I get the chance to talk to you alone?” Will feels like the air was just knocked out of him. Of course Mike is joking, but there’s a hint of truth to the statement. He was looking for ways to get Will alone. Will isn’t sure whether this information excites him or terrifies him.
“You’re nutty,” Will says, physically shaking the worries from his head.
“Maybe so,” Mike says, “but it worked.”
