Steve squeezes Eddie’s hand, trailing his other down the lockers. “What’d they say?” he asks, curious.

“I’m so glad you’re okay,” Dustin whispered out, voice muffled by Steve’s chest. “I don’t know what I would do without you.”
“I second that. If you ever come that close to death ever again, I’ll kill you myself,” Robin added, voice suspiciously watery.
Steve opened his mouth, but thought better of it and shut it, teeth making a soft click. He simply squeezed them tighter against him instead. He couldn’t tell them. He couldn’t bring himself to ruin the moment, to tell them that he was probably hurtling towards his certain death.
Distantly, he heard a clock toll.
