Summary
In the brief flash of adjusting to light after darkness, Caitlyn wondered — once again — what the actual fuck she was doing.
She’d first wondered it a week ago when she’d started trying to find the appropriate literature, and had had to sort through pile after pile of useless tourist trite, before finally giving in and trying to access the actual research papers on the subject of mental wellbeing. Which all seemed to be addressed hostilely to each other and be set on proving the author of the previous paper wrong. She’d wondered what she was doing in the panicked moments late at night, reading and reading and reading and trying to avoid letting Vi know why she was so tired, why she wasn’t coming to bed, what she was working on.
She’d wondered it so many times on the trip here she wasn’t going to think about (long cramped moments in utter darkness, Jinx’s hand on her arm (on her arm binding it to the wheelchair), the gun on her waist easily in reach, and all it would take is grab and lift and fire).
And now, Caitlyn wondered it again.

Caitlyn goes to her first attempt to give therapy to Jinx, despite her own misgivings.

Her face was [thankfully] still and unsmiling, with no anger. “I’ve seen your graffiti too, of course, but this is different.” Sitting on a barrel. In my alleyway! {Why'd she come down here? {Claggor leaned over, walking a semicircle around her.}} In mufti too, or… whatever fancy word the Pilties used for normal clothes. Except not fully that because she had her badge. Hands in her lap, gun on her back (rhythm and rhyme to pass the time).
One eye closed, aiming down the — the no sights. Because this wasn't a gun. (Idiot) It was a paint sprayer. Crap. And here I was disarmed — wait, no, unarmed. Disarmed was Sevika [burn kill hate liar liar LIAR]. Still wanted to find out how hers ticked. Put on my best disarming smirk, all the confidence <Jinx isn't scared of anything> and slowly lowered the sprayer. “...Well shit. Here to arrest me for vandalism?” My mouth twitched and I glared at it until it stopped, clipping the sprayer onto my belt (Seriously, why so many belts?) and folding my hands behind my head.

A week later, Jinx ends up having a chat with Caitlyn. It goes well (badly) [awfully].

She was fine. She was! She — she’d taken a while to get back there, but she had three meals a day, actual meals. She had a home. She hadn’t betrayed the undercity (not really, not actually, she tried to tell herself). And she had Cait. She had kisses and warmth curled against her back in bed and the fragility of smiles late at night.
Vi was fine. Really!
