The plan: Gintoki decides to play with his luck by spiking Hijikata’s sake with a sedative, tying him up with "Shinsengumi standard issue" rope (which apparently has the tensile strength of wet toilet paper), and planning to tease the Vice-Commander into submission.
The reality: Gintoki forgot he is in a shonen manga universe where characters can smash through concrete.
