Summary
“Eddie.” Buck breaks the silence again after a few minutes, continuing only after he earns a small hum from his boyfriend. “I’m scared.”
“Why?” Eddie asks softly like he always does and kneels next to an armchair, placing his hand over Buck’s arm and Theo’s small back.
“What if I screw up?” Buck does his very best to swallow back the tears. “I don’t know how to be a dad.”
“You won’t screw up, Buck. You know how I know this?” Buck slowly shakes his head, earning a small smile from Eddie. “Because Theo isn’t going to be the first kid you’ve raised.”
(or: the 118 responds to a call and all of the sudden Buck becomes a dad.)

Summary
I’ve known Buck longer than you’ve been alive. He’s never taken you to the zoo or driven you to school or cooked you your favourite meal from scratch just because you asked. He’s never saved you from a tsunami. He’s never held you through nightmare after nightmare. He’s never come back from the dead because you told him to. He’s never sacrificed himself over and over and over to keep you safe. He’s never loved you like he loves me.
Logically, Christopher knows there’s a reason Buck hasn’t done any of these things for Theo. He hasn’t been given the chance to. Yet.
or
Chris figures out his place in Buck’s life. He just has to yell at a child first.

Summary
She spends another hour with them, the conversation becoming gradually more casual as the time went on. That felt good because Buck thought it meant she was satisfied with what she was seeing. He felt more comfortable too–hard not to when Eddie was so incredibly effortless. He did realize though that his only lie was that he and Eddie were life partners in that sense. Nothing they’ve said to her has been a lie otherwise, just the telling of a story written by two authors on the same page.
After a call, Buck takes the leap to become an emergency foster. A few white lies on white paper later, he finds himself in a dream come true.
A 9x17 speculation fic
