Summary
As the noise of the party dimmed, allowing him to hear the crunching of sand under shoes, Arkul saw Wyll pacing back and forth across the small beach, silhouette softened against the fading sunset. Golden light reflected off his obsidian horns, where they curved over his hair. He was obviously troubled— his broad shoulders tense, and his hands clenched by his sides as he walked— and yet, for a moment, Arkul paused to admire how beautiful he looked in the evening light.
Finally, Arkul walked out and met the man’s eyes. ‘Agh, Hells!’
Wyll’s voice sounded disappointed rather than shocked, and that hole in Arkul’s chest pounded with the fear that it was somehow— well, really, he had plenty of reasons to hate him, let alone be simply disappointed– his fault, ‘I was hoping you wouldn’t notice I was gone.’
