Realistically speaking, neither Peter nor Regulus were made of the material to stand against the former Dark Lord, even if he was currently nothing but a shade.
They weren’t geniuses like Siri or Potter (the older); they weren’t particularly brave either, not to mention their dubious moral integrity.
He hadn’t feared the Dark Lord when he had walked into that cave, nor when he was imprisoned by the man. But he had wanted to die back then. And now, with his newfound purpose in life... he wanted to survive. And so maybe it was only natural that he feared what was to come.Series

Peter Pettigrew and Regulus Black are fresh out of prison, with the wizarding world hot on their heels.
On the hunt for horcruxes they invade schools, get to know a guy with a pet snake, almost get into a fist fight with dumbledore and steal one (1) very important hat. (Probably not the one you are thinking though)-
“I know I said it before, but please don’t get killed by Sirius. I would have to hunt him down, and I am not that skilled.”
“So you just wouldn’t avenge me? I’m so hurt,” Peter bemoaned, dramatically placing a hand over his heart.
