Her sobs shook her small frame, but she let him hold her, finally sinking into his chest. Ekko’s hands stayed firm on her shoulders, guiding her breaths, brushing strands of damp hair from her face.
“Keep your eyes open… just a little longer,” he whispered. “I’ve got you. You’re safe now.”
She gave a faint nod, trembling less with each uneven inhale. Her fingers curled lightly around his arms, leaning in, surrendering to his warmth. For the first time since the haze hit, she wasn’t fighting him.
Ekko exhaled softly, heart tightening and easing all at once. For a moment, nothing else existed—just her, fragile and alive, in his arms.
