Brandon tore it off her head the second they were inside their tent, throwing it to the ground and going into a tirade about honor (and how little of it the crown prince possessed). He stormed out of the tent a few minutes later to “go riding” and when he got back the crown of pale blue flowers was nowhere to be found. He assumed Ned or Benjen had disposed of it.
He hadn’t noticed Lyanna pick it up from the ground the second he’d turned his back and place it into her bag gently so it wouldn’t get ruined, covering it with one of her dresses.

Rhaegar aches for some deeper form of passion that he's never head, but he's content with his marriage to Elia. Then he meets Brandon's younger sister, and suddenly he's a lot less satisfied with his life.
Author's Note (April 2020): Looking back on this story, I don't think it's very well-written or even a compelling narrative. I'm leaving it up for people who did enjoy it, but I consider this story an old shame.

No Robert's Rebellion here, just a peaceful ascension of Rhaegar to the throne with Lyanna as his one and only wife. Takes place in Winterfell and told from Sansa's POV. Completely AU, completely wild and spontaneous idea.

Lyanna Stark decides against taking flight from her marriage, and begrudgingly marries Robert Baratheon. Within the year, she becomes a widow at the young age of seventeen, with half the realm believing she had a hand in it. Now free from the bonds of marriage, and her place at Storm's End, Lyanna returns to Winterfell with no intention of remarrying.
Rhaegar Targaryen is widowed when Elia Martell dies in childbed, attempting to give her husband his third child. The child, a girl, is lost alongside her mother. The prophecy and the realm demands that he remarry, calling for a flurry of young maidens to vie for his attentions, and one who is unsure if she desired his attention at all.
Yet this pair had almost known intimacy before. Whether they shall know it again, only the Gods can say.
